I honestly had not expected the fly to work, and based on the softness of the hackle from my rooster (his hackle was more like hen hackle than good narrow-but- strong rooster hackle).
I had thought that the fly would crumple and be useless after one bite or weed snag. It held up remarkably well, and after smoothing it out a bit, it looked good as new and it is still in my fly box, ready to use again, when I’m feeling like a bit of encouragement - to remind me that the fish aren’t always as picky as all that, and that even a very beginner fly tier can design and tie a successful fly.
