National Hispanic Heritage Month was designed in order to recognize the contributions American Citizens who have ancestors from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. This holiday is celebrated from September 15 to October 15.
History
Under President Lyndon Johnson this event first started in the year 1968, as Hispanic Heritage Week. However, it was then expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, to cover a 30-day period, starting on September 15, ending on October 15. That year on August 17, it was enacted into a law, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
