If you play the violin you know that holding a bow is something you need to know how to do . It might seem difficult at first but it is actually quite easy . Even if you don ’ t play the violin it could be a fun thing to learn and try . Things you need :
● Violin Bow ( if you don ’ t have that you can just use a pencil )
● A good attitude
Important message : There are a few different ways that people hold a violin bow but this is one of the ones I learned when I first started . This might not be how your instructor tells you to , so do what your instructor says .
To start off you don ’ t need anything except your right hand ( it doesn ’ t matter if you are right or left handed ). Now , remember when you were in elementary school and you were walking in the halls . You and your friends were chatting a bit ( we all did this , don ’ t lie to yourself ) and your teacher held up a quiet coyote . In order to hold a bow you need to do something a little different . You are going to make a llama .
What you are going to do is make a quiet coyote . Now , instead of your thumb touching your finger pads you want the tip of your thumb to touch the crease where your fingers bend at the top .
Now that you have done that you want to put a pencil or violin bow ( whatever you have ) in between the crease and your thumb ( put the pencil the long way or hamburger style ). On a violin bow you ’ re doing all of this on the frog of the bow ( the base of the bow ).
You are now going to move your pinky to the top of the bow so the tip of your pinky is touching the bow . Now your llama has a lazy ear ( your index finger ) so rest your index finger on the bow / pencil . Congratulations you can hold a violin bow properly but there is one more optional step . You can name your llama ! I hope you had fun learning how to hold a violin bow !
