From Z to Alpha : Inspiring the Next Generations to Enter Dental Careers
At our booth , the three of us realized just how far away from mainstream career paths our profession has become . As counselors came to our table and read our information , we heard time and time again how these people NEVER recommend careers in dentistry . They told us they never even think about fields such as dental hygiene or dental assisting , and especially going to dental school and becoming a dentist . It was shocking to say the least . In fact , many of the counselors thanked us for attending the event and enlightening them as to the career possibilities of dentistry . By the end of the conference , we had exhausted our supply of handouts and dental swag .
Buoyed by the experience and positive feedback we received from attendees , I went back to the Board of Trustees to approve my attendance at a second counselors ’ conference . This conference was also held at the Kalahari Resort and hosted by the Pennsylvania Association of College Admissions Counselors ( PACAC ). This group consists of high school and college level counselors . Joined by our former ADA Trustee and former
