Over the years Albert estimates that he has built hundreds of the toy trucks , and has touched just as many young hearts in the process .
Albert and Sharon don ’ t usually get to see the children who receive the toys , but when they do , they say the children are thrilled . It ’ s a heart-warming experience for them and the children . “ It brings tears to your eyes to see them so happy ,” said Albert . In September of 2023 , Albert and Sharon are going to be honored through the Honor Flight program , a non-profit organization which brings veterans to Washington D . C . to spend a day at the nation ’ s memorials . For years , they have turned down the opportunity to go , but after some convincing , have finally agreed to make the trip . Sharon is also a veteran , having served in the Vietnam War . Both are members of the American Legion Post 46 in Custer . “ Now we ’ re ready to go ,” said Sharon . After years of doing things for others — building houses , wheelchair ramps , and wooden toys ; serving his country in WWII , or even just mowing lawns , this year ’ s Honor Flight will be a small way to honor and give back to someone who has given so much .
