The ribs are smoked for six to eight hours in a smokehouse they built in the back . “ We do 30 racks of ribs a day just to try to keep up ,” said Scott . When it comes to steaks , Catherine said , “ We believe in getting high-quality steaks and letting the meat speak for itself . So we don ’ t highly season the steak , just enough to help bring out the flavor .”
The steak is cut in-house and includes options such as ribeye , buffalo ribeye , filet mignon and elk medallions .
For drinks , the 1885 Steakhouse & Saloon has a full selection of bar items along with 19 different beers and around 40 different
wines . “ One of our most popular items is our Old Fashioned . I bet we do about a 100 a week ,” said Catherine . There is also iced tea , lemonade , milk , coffee and Coke products .
When it ' s time for dessert , one popular option is the chocolate bourbon pecan pie featuring bittersweet chocolate ganache , mammoth Georgia pecans , Woodford Reserve bourbon and a classic brown sugar custard baked in a handmade all-butter crust .
The blueberry peach cobbler made entirely from scratch is another popular option , and children enjoy the campfire sandwich which is a frozen version of a classic s ’ more .
If desired , customers can mix and match sides , appetizers or salads to make their preferred meal . Portions are hearty , and according to Catherine , most people end up taking a to-go box .
A variety of options on the menu are also gluten-free and gluten-free buns are available .
1885 Steakhouse & Saloon does take reservations and has hosted corporate parties . “ We try to accommodate as much as possible ,” said Scott . For to-go items , Catherine said they try to keep a ticket time of 20 to 25 minutes . That way people can pick up a meal on their way home or over a lunch break .
During the high season , the 1885 Steakhouse & Saloon is open seven days a week from 11 a . m . to 10 p . m . Hours will be reduced in the off season , but except for a few remodeling projects , the restaurant will be open year-round .
Scott and Catherine want their customers to be happy and full as they leave the 1885 Steakhouse & Saloon .
“ We want it to be an experience when they come here that they enjoy and want to come back to because they had a great time and the food was good ,” said Scott .
