PCOH Presents Fluoride Grant to Shippensburg Borough Authority
PDA president-elect Dr . Gary Davis ( center ), of Shippensburg , presented a $ 25,000 grant on behalf of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Oral Health ( PCOH ), to Kevin Plasterer , ( left ) Shippensburg Borough Manager , and Michael Pimental , ( right ) Chairperson of the Shippensburg Borough Authority . The grant is competitively awarded to Pennsylvania water systems that provide fluoride to the communities they serve .
“ The Borough Authority is grateful to PCOH for this grant and to Dr . Davis for making us aware of the grant and for connecting the Borough Authority with PCOH ,” Pimental said .
2020 NCDHM Update – Statewide Winner Receives Award
This spring , when all Pennsylvania schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic , we knew the presentation of awards to our National Children ’ s Dental Health Month ( NCDHM ) poster contest winners would differ greatly from previous years . With public health officials keeping restrictions in place , and many schools utilizing virtual learning days and limiting visitors , the typical awards presentation to our first-place winner at a school assembly , usually occurring in May or June , has been replaced by a visit to the dentist .
First-place winner Rowen Lewis ( Mountain View Elementary School in Harrisburg , Dauphin County ) started his 2020-2021 school year virtually , so we thought what better way for him to receive his NCDHM award than to visit his dentist ? Dr . Ryan Williams , of Friedman , Grater , Williams and Sandusky Family Dental in Harrisburg , met Rowen and his family outside of their office for the award presentation and photos .
Rowen ’ s prize-winning entry shows a large , lively tooth along with floss , a toothbrush and toothpaste , dancing and singing “ Brush and Floss Daily .” You can ’ t see the smile under the mask , but Rowen was definitely excited to receive his framed poster and a $ 500 check for his artistic efforts . Congratulations , Rowen !
