Reflections of MOM-n-PA 2019
Reflections of
MOM-n-PA 2019
By Dr. Bruce R. Terry, Editor Emeritus
The seventh annual MOM-n-PA event took
place June 6-8. This year we transformed the
Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre into a
120-chair dental clinic. With generous donations
from United Concordia/Highmark and many
others we served more than 1,600 patients
in two days and provided more than $1 million
of donated dental services.
Each year we select a different site to host this event.
We started with Philadelphia in 2013, followed by Allentown
(2014), Harrisburg (2015), Pittsburgh (2016), Erie (2017), and
most recently, Reading (2018). The core leaders have remained
the same since the first mission, with Dr. Gary Davis as General
Chair and Dr. Bernie Dishler who shares so many responsibilities.
My job as facilities manager is to create a plan each year to fit
all of the equipment in the space we rent and create a flow
that works. I create a floor plan for the entire event and
individual plans for each section. I factor in power, water,
sewer, patient flow and volunteer flow. Until it all starts to
come together on set-up day, I worry that I have measured
wrong or forgotten something important. I arrived on the
Wednesday night before the Wilkes-Barre event and measured
and put tape on the floor to help the crews on Thursday lay out
the mechanical equipment.
