Get to Know Your PDA Board of Trustees Did you always know you wanted to be a dentist when you were younger? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a dentist since the second grade, inspired by Dr. Eugene Czarnecki. What motivated you to pursue a career in organized dentistry? Stanley Markiewicz, DMD First District Trustee I was involved in dental school in volunteering for the Liberty Dental Conference and later, cutting the grass at the central office of the Philadelphia County Dental Society. Later, I wanted to maintain high ethical standards. When and where did you attend dental school? Temple University; graduated in 1987. Where do you currently practice? I no longer practice due to medical reasons. What do you believe is the most challenging issue facing dentistry as a profession? Monopolized insurance companies. What do you believe is the most challenging issue facing organized dentistry? Declining membership. What do you think is the single greatest achievement in dentistry over the past 150 years of PDA’s history? Dr. Markiewicz and his wife, Roe, have a son (Stan III). In his spare time, he enjoys numismatics, bingo and relaxing on the beach. He is a volunteer for his church, as an usher and in bingo ministry. Name some fun/interesting things about yourself that others would be surprised to learn. I enjoy cooking. I am a past master gardener. When I was a volunteer on pizza day at my son’s school, a previous first grader introduced me to her parents as the pizza delivery guy. Who was your greatest role model? Dr. Eugene Czarnecki, the first speaker of the house of PDA. What famous person would you most like to spend a day with? The President of the United States.
