NCHA FUTURITY CO-CHAMPION - JAMIE CREEK & TP DANCIN IN THE REYN Q-79641 ARTICLE BY KYLIE R. MELROSE Photo Ken Anderson "Winning the Futurity was amazing it was a dream come true," says NCHA Futurity Co- Champion Jamie Creek. The showman com- mented on what was going through his mind when he was waiting to hear his score in the final. "I rode out and thought it was a pretty nice run, so we were hoping for a good score to put us up there in the placings." Jamie commented on what was going through his mind when he was waiting for the judges to go over the two highest scoring runs after the NCHA Futurity final. "It was an amazing feeling once the scores were all finalised and we were crowned co-champions. Jamie talked me through his winning run. "We had a good draw and some pretty nice cows picked out so the plan was to go and get shown clean my first cow set up pretty well and we were able to get a bit done then. My second cut unfolded really well I drove up from the back fence through the middle for a really good cut. Lilly was able to show off a little bit on the 2nd cow the 3rd cow. I wanted to chip off the top but the cow I just worked met up with my 3rd cow and I was able to get them separated just in time and do a couple turns before he buzzer." "Lilly is by Tapt Dancing Cat (imp) and out of Turpentine Storm," says Jamie. "She is a really nice mare. She's very cow driven and very smart on a cow, with a big stop." During his run in the final, Jamie had Peter Kennedy and Aaron Wheatley in the corners helping pick cows, and Jason Leitch and Corey Holden out the front turning cows back for him. Jamie recalls the advice that he received from them before and during his run. "The advice from my help before the run was just to go have a nice clean, mistake free run. And during my run it was making sure my cows were in a good position." "We started off with a 213, she switched on straight away and it was a nice neat run to start," recalled Jamie of their runs in the round she got a cow to show her off a little more and we were able to mark a nice 215 through both rounds. She felt really solid and confident in herself." Jamie commented on his impression of Lilly during their runs. "Through each run she gained confidence and felt like she was really enjoying what she was doing." "We had really good preworks with Lilly in the lead up to the Futurity," says Jamie. "She felt like she was building into a really nice Futurity horse and getting her confidence." When asked, how did you feel on the final day of the NCHA Futurity, going into the final? Jamie answered, "I felt quite relaxed and happy to be in the final. I knew I had a nice horse underneath me, and we would just go and do our best." When asked, what does it mean to you as a trainer and showman to win the NCHA Futurity? Jamie answered, "It's a dream come true as a trainer to win the NCHA Futurity, its a very big boost to our business and makes all the long hours and hard work worth it." "Lilly was broken in by Keeley Murch from S.A and then sent to me to train'" says Jamie. She was very strong willed and determined young filly who wanted to do things her own way but once she worked out what she had to do, she came along very quickly cutting became a fun game for her." Jamie commented on his support team and what they mean to him. "My mum and dad are a big part of our business, they help with everything at home and at shows. My wife Samantha lopes and cares for all of the horses and her support
