WHO DO YOU TRUST WITH THE FUTURE OF LAGUNA BEACH : RESIDENTS OR POLITICIANS ?

Measure Q gives residents a seat at the table to decide the future of Laguna Beach . Who can argue with that ?
Measure Q locks in the zoning laws that have protected Laguna ’ s charm for decades and are now being loosened by our politicians . It restricts merging multiple small lots into one big box commercial building and it requires consideration of the impacts of prior commercial development before adding new property entitlements . That ’ s it !
How powerful is the City Council ? It only takes 3 votes for this or any future Council to radically change the rules for development . It ’ s already happening : our City Council recently gutted parking requirements for the downtown . Expect more changes in the future .
Special interests are pouring money into groups opposing Q — groups that don ’ t have Laguna ’ s best interests at heart — and the flood of distortions has begun .
Even our city officials are engaging in misinformation . Our City Attorney initially stated that a vote would require 50 % approval from all registered voters in the city instead of just 50 % of the voters in an election . Even though he has now backed away from this statement , this misinformation is still being propagated by opponents of the measure . The city claims that multiple small projects such as the coffee house would require a vote , but this isn ’ t accurate either . Expect more misrepresentations as the election draws closer .
Measure Q is our best tool to protect Laguna ’ s charm and determine its future . It comes down to who you trust more : your friends and neighbors or politicians beholden to developer money ?
Choose wisely . Our future depends on you .
