FALL SPORTS UPDATE
CROSS COUNTRY Laguna participated in the 41st Annual Woodbridge Cross Country meet last weekend at Irvine ’ s Great Park . The girls competed in the Varsity White B division finishing third out of 23 teams . Top runner for the Breakers was Sydney Schaefgen with an 18:22.1 mark for the 3-mile course . Also scoring for Laguna were Anoua Carrie , Claire Anderson , Nina Rogers and Karina Pitz .
The Boys team is rebuilding this year and will be challenged to earn a spot in the playoffs , missing CIF for the first time since 1998 . The varsity will run in Temecula , Clovis and the OC Championships before the league meet on Oct . 29 . The team needs to be ranked in the top 13 in two of the final four polls or finish first or second in the Sunset Wave League finals to advance to post-season .
Eva Travis Laguna ’ s kill Leader for volleyball . The senior transfer from Aliso Niguel has recorded 25 or more kills six times this season with a season high 38 in a win over JSerra . Travis is a key for the Breakers to make the post season . She is averaging 5.5 kills per set played – third best in 20 seasons of the rally scoring format at Laguna Beach . Sir , You have been misinformed by your advisors on Measure Q . Laguna Residents First supports your decision for a new fire station in the proposed location at 5th and Coast Highway . It is important for you to understand that Measure Q does NOT interfere with using that location , or with building a new fire station , or retrofitting existing stations .
The fact is , a simple lot line adjustment is all that is needed to enable the South Laguna location for a new fire station . Measure Q does NOT interfere with the City ’ s discretion on administrative matters such as lot line adjustments .
There is nothing in Measure Q that takes any jurisdiction over Earthquake retrofits , remodels or even rebuilds that don ’ t change the height , size , or type of use . All of that is completely exempt .
None of Laguna ’ s fire stations are even close to Measure Q ’ s size standard of 22,000 sq ft of floor area . Floor area is a legal term that does not include garage , parking , or outdoor amenities . New fire stations would not fall under Q .
Measure Q gives our council better standards to help manage development and gives residents the right to vote on significant projects .
