The Havanese
Description: The Havanese is a sturdy toy breed with a cheerful expression and elegant, yet athletic appearance. They are well-proportioned and surprisingly strong, rather than delicate. One of the breed ' s most distinctive features is its long, soft, silky double coat, which can be straight, wavy, or gently curly. The coat comes in nearly every color and pattern, including white, cream, black, chocolate, silver, gold, sable, brindle, and various combinations.
Temperament: The Havanese is a small, affectionate companion breed known for its cheerful personality and devotion to its family. Originally from Cuba, these intelligent dogs thrive on human interaction and are eager to please, making them relatively easy to train. Playful, gentle, and adaptable, Havanese dogs get along well with children, other pets, and can live comfortably in an apartment or in the country. Despite their small size, Havanese are surprisingly agile and energetic. They enjoy walks and play time but are equally content cuddling with their family. Their sturdy frame and friendly temperament make them excellent companions for individuals, families with children, and seniors, too. Havanese are intelligent and thrive on spending time with their families. They often enjoy learning tricks, obedience, agility, or rally, which provide both physical and mental exercise. Because they were bred as companion dogs, they are happiest when activities involve their people.
Average Height / Weight: Approximately 8 to 12 inches in height, and typically 7 to 15 pounds.
Health Issues: This breed is generally healthy, but can be prone to patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, heart disease, hip dysplasia, dental disease, and allergies.
Exercise: Havanese are adaptable and don ' t need the high levels of exercise required by sporting or herding breeds. Daily walks, interactive play, and companionship are usually enough to keep them healthy, happy, and well-behaved.
Life Expectancy: 14- 16 years.
Grooming: Their long, silky coat requires regular grooming, but they shed very little, making them a popular choice for many allergy-conscious households.
