Here are half a dozen easy, nutritious school snacks to put in your child ' s lunchbox that he or she will actually enjoy:
• Apple slices with peanut or sunflower butter – Choose sunflower butter for a nut-free classroom.
• Greek yogurt with berries – Pack berries separately if your child prefers to add them.
• Cheese cubes and whole-grain crackers – An easy combination of protein, calcium and whole grains.
• Banana with a small handful of nuts – Use seeds instead of nuts when necessary.
• Veggie sticks with hummus – Try carrots, cucumber, or snap peas with a small container of hummus.
• Homemade trail mix – Combine wholegrain cereal, raisins or other dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, and a few pretzels. For younger children, avoid whole nuts and other choking hazards.
