Appalachian Pug Rescue rescues Pugs in need , provides medical care , and places them in loving , forever homes . We are based in Lock Haven , Pennsylvania , and serve Pennsylvania , Maryland , Ohio , West Virginia , New Jersey , and New York . Our pugs come from local shelters , puppy mills , owner surrenders , and rescue partners . Due to the popularity of the pug breed and their unique health needs , the need for Pug rescue in our area is significant , as is our need for volunteer support and donations .
Our Mission Statement is “ For the love of Pugs ,” and APR ' s mission is both simple and impactful . We pledge to :
• Provide a safe alternative to shelters for Pugs in need using loving foster homes ;
• Provide medical care , and help them on their journey to an adoptive , forever home ;
• Educate prospective owners about the unique needs and health issues associated with the Pug breed ;
• Coordinate with other local and Pug-specific rescues to facilitate transport , placement , and care for Pugs in our service area .
Appalachian Pug Rescue is a platinum transparency rated charity . We are a 501 ( c )( 3 ) organization , run entirely by Pug-obsessed volunteers dedicated to finding homes for any Pug in need . If no home can be found , then we provide them with a comfortable and loving place where they can live out their best lives .
Once a Pug comes into rescue , we place the dog in a loving and experienced foster home . The foster evaluates the Pug ’ s personality , interactions with other animals and people , and communicates with the rescue regarding medical care . Our Pugs are seen by our veterinarian partners as soon as possible to get them upto-date on vaccinations , heartworm , and lyme tests , and to assess the need for any procedures , such as spay and neuter , dental , or surgery . Veterinarians , fosters , and coordinators work together to ensure the Pug has all the treatment ( s ) and attention needed to be happy and healthy in a loving forever home .
Pugs are very cute , but they do have specific needs . The breed is quite misunderstood and there are important facts that everybody should know before adopting a Pug as their forever companion . APR will be sure to educate you about the breeds issues , so you will be well informed before you adopt . Every Pug owner will tell you they are so , so worth it ! However , Pugs generally require more veterinary care than other breeds , so be aware that they can be more of a financial investment , since all of the things that make Pugs so cute and sweet seem to contribute to their health issues .
Our greatest asset is the dedication , effort , and compassion of our volunteers . They take on many recurring roles , including foster , transport , and fundraising . If you are interested in joining our team , log on to our website for more information : www . appalachianpugrescue . org
