Emmy- and Edward R . Murrow Awardwinning investigative journalist Eli Sherman , who works with the CBS affiliate WPRI-12 , spent several months taking a look behind the curtain at the Preserve Sporting Club & Residences [“ Into the Foxhole ”]. The exclusive woodland resort has long been the subject of intrigue and controversy , including most recently when a former contractor accused the equity owner of sexual harassment . “ It wasn ’ t clear where this story would take me when I started digging ,” Sherman says . “ What I didn ’ t expect is that it would evolve in real-time and eventually land at the center of a federal lawsuit that made national headlines .”
Dana Smith tapped into his interest of collecting ephemera to create this month ’ s photo illustration for “ Into the Foxhole .” In addition to his contributions to Rhode Island Monthly , the editorial illustrator and photographer recently worked for the Wall Street Journal , the Los Angeles Times , the New York Times and universities . “ I ’ ve been collecting campy , kitschy , 1960s postcards and crusty old papers ever since I can remember ,” he says , “ so when this story was assigned , all I had to do was reach into my image shoebox , grab a handful of weathered Americana goodness , drop it onto the canvas and watch it make its own gravy .”

Photographer Myke Yeager was tasked with photographing all of the nurses for the “ Health Care Heroes ” feature , which acknowledges their hard work in the medical field . It was a fitting assignment : He also works at the Miriam Hospital and is pursuing a career as a CNA in addition to his photography side hustle . He enjoyed meeting each of the health care heroes and learned some pointers for his future goals . “ Nurses rock ,” he says . 🆁
