This Wednesday is Community Information Day

All Charbonneau residents are invited to attend the annual Charbonneau Newcomers Welcome and Community Information Day on Wednesday , Sept . 6 , from 5-7 p . m . in the clubhouse . Newcomers living in Charbonneau have been invited to attend a short informational presentation by the board of directors about life in Charbonneau at 4:30 p . m . in the Pavilion .
At 5 p . m . newcomers will join their neighbors in the clubhouse for Community Information Day . This annual event provides residents with information from local businesses , community service providers , volunteer organizations and social groups all under one roof .
We will also be raffling off gift baskets donated by the many vendors . Vendors will hand out one double raffle ticket to each resident who visits their table . Keep one of the tickets and put the matching tickets into containers in front of the raffle prizes you like . Make sure to visit every vendor to increase your chances of winning !
Iced tea , soft drinks and water will be provided . Wine will also be available for purchase . Don ’ t miss this annual event !
Improve your writing skills workshop
Have you ever thought about writing your life story but didn ’ t know where or how to start ?
Nationally published writer and Charbonneau resident Jean Lengwin has an easy three-step method that will get you past that notion .
If you only complete the first task , future generations may not know what you ’ ve done but they ’ ll know where you ’ ve been . You ’ re not doing this for yourself . You ’ re doing it for them , so let ’ s have some fun while getting our stories on paper .

Room at the Activity Center for an introduction into writing your life story . Hopefully there will be enough interest to expand this into a weekly memoir writers ’ club .

Coming soon : wood carving workshop
CCC resident Bob Fresh is inviting fellow residents to attend a wood-carving workshop at the Activity Center on Monday , Oct . 14 , from 9 a . m . -noon in the Wilson Room .
Wood carving is a great hobby for those who enjoy working with their hands . It is a traditional art form that takes just a few tools and a good coach to get started . It is highly portable and takes up little space . It ’ s also fun and inexpensive .
The workshop will be taught by skilled carver Nancy Girad . Beginners and experienced carvers are welcome . If there is enough interest from residents in woodcarving , Bob would like to offer ongoing classes at Charbonneau .

Jewelry assessment and complimentary cleaning
Charbonneau residents are invited to bring in a few jewelry items they may be curious about for a complimentary cleaning , identification and value determination .
Charbonneau resident Robert Bauman received his Graduate Gemologist designation from the Gemological Institute of America in 1982 , was awarded Certified Gemologist Appraiser in 1999 and has owned and operated Reliant Gem Lab for over 25 years .
Robert is grateful to be a part of this community with his wife Denise and before moving to Charbonneau his career with Reliant Gem Lab provided appraisal services for large corporate and smaller fine independent Jewelers throughout The Pacific Northwest .
Please feel free to drop by the Activity Center on Sept . 19 in the Hazelglade Room from 10 a . m . -1 p . m . to share with Robert and he will additionally professionally photograph items and may have suggestions for their care .

Get martial arts training in Charbonneau
Karate-Do Kenpo Academy offers a safe fastpaced learning environment in Charbonneau .
First-time students receive personalized one-on-one instruction from Sensei Don Polevacik and / or experienced students . The focus is on self-defense , making it suitable for all ages and genders .
Residents had a lovely afternoon at Lady Hill sipping wine while we listened to Greg Leo ’ s lecture on the history of the Champoeg area . We also had the V . I . P . treatment from owner Elaine Owen .
The program is a hybrid of karate , jiu-jitsu & judo , Kenpo , and Chinese boxing . Students will start slowly with basic warm-ups and stretching then move on to blocking and striking drills .
“ Katas ” or forms are taught to string the basics together in a fluid and powerful demonstration of the techniques .
Advanced defensive technique series , escapes , and forms are taught as students level up through our belt ranking system . No matter what belt you are , you will actively participate with the group and individuals in every class .
Group classes are held on Saturdays from 10- 11 a . m . and 11:15 a . m . -12:15 p . m . at the Activity Center .

Wilsonville Food Bank collections
Volunteers for the Wilsonville Food Bank will be collecting donations on Wednesday , Sept . 27 from 8:30 a . m . to 1 p . m . in the Activity Center .
The most needed items this month are soups , cereal , sizes 5 , 6 , and 7 children ’ s diapers , and baked beans or similar items .
