Traveling solo , or not , is a blast

When is the last time you planned a trip abroad ? Have you ever traveled abroad as a solo or have you traveled with a partner ? The first time I traveled abroad as a single , I was a mere 22 years old . I was a flight attendant

FERGUSON for Pan Am , and my German roommate , Barbara , and I planned a ski trip to Kitzbuel , Austria . But , a week before the trip , she was injured in an automobile accident . Not being at all adventurous when on my own , I tried to get out of going on the trip , but Barbara insisted I go . She even made arrangements for me to meet up with her old boyfriend when I landed in Munich . At the end of the trip , Barb had her brother meet me in Baden-Baden , Germany , and drive me to the airport for my return flight to Washington D . C . where she and I were based . I was very nervous about that trip , but I had an unforgettable time and it was a blast ! Who knew ?

I learned a very important lesson at a very young age , that singles have fun whether traveling alone or with others . Many members of Solo Sisters also love to travel and , since

community . The Charbonneau Ladies Golf Association ( CLGA ) began in 1973 , two years before the men ’ s golf club in 1975 , and included both the 18-hole group and the 9-hole group ( Niners ). By the mid-1980s the Niners separated from CLGA and formed its own club . During the ‘ 80s and ‘ 90s memberships grew , and many tournaments were added to the calendar . In the late ‘ 90s and early 2000s membership dropped significantly . As a result , and after much discussion and dissension , but with a unanimous vote , Charbonneau Ladies Golf Association name was changed to Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association ( CWGA ), and bylaws were written to include women outside of the Charbonneau community to become members .

In 2007 Chris Bensel began his leadership of the Charbonneau Golf Club . Chris is a third-generation golf professional . ( Is his son Jackson following closely in his footsteps ?). He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and is endorsed in sports and event management and

COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted , they have taken advantage of the many opportunities being offered . Now is when I become a walking advertisement for the Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce ! In 2019 , I signed up for a nine-day trip to Tuscany , with the Chamber , and , because I am shy ( believe it or not ), I invited my daughter to join me . There were about 40 people in our group , and we had a fabulous time ! When there was a glitch in our travel plans , the tour operator took care of everything and we continued to enjoy the sights and have fun . I am going on another Chamber trip this fall to southern Italy to enjoy the Amalfi Coast . No daughter this time , but I will be traveling with my sister and her wife and I know we ’ ll have another wonderful time .

Many of my friends turn to Overseas Adventure Travel when planning a trip abroad . OAT offers a singles supplement on most tours , so you can travel with a friend , but get your own room – a must for many of us ! You will also often find that , the bigger your group , the lower the price . We ’ re all in favor of that . Another friend enjoys the creative challenge of putting a trip together , land and air packages . Then , off she goes , on her own , and every trip has been a success . Other friends are very creative and decide that , since they are traveling to places that are 8-10 time zones away , might as well string together a couple of trips , and then go home .

Whatever you do , wherever you go , I wish you safe travels and good times . And if you are a single woman living in Charbonneau and would like to know more about Solo Sisters , come see us at our table in the Fireplace Room on Community Information Day on Sept . 6 . We ’ d love to chat with you !

He was the advocate for both CWGA and the Niners having two sanctioned golf days . This has increased the number of rounds of sanctioned golf played this year within CWGA , so far 523 rounds on Tuesdays and 571 rounds on Thursdays . He is present and an active planning partner in all our events giving advise and support when needed . His enthusiasm for our vision to become the premier women ’ s golf club in the area is unprecedented . If you want to see this firsthand come join us for the next scramble , chipping contest and dinner , Fifty and Fabulous – Let ’ s Flamingo on Sept . 7 at 1:30 p . m . You will also see him at the club championship Sept . 14 and 15 ( remember to qualify you need to have played eight rounds of 18-hole sanctioned golf ) and the Stagette — scramble , horse race , lunch and more on Oct . 3 as we continue to celebrate “ Cheers to 50 Years .”
