Hello Wilsonville Library Fans ,
Is it already September — how did that happen ? September is the gateway to a beautiful Oregon autumn weather … and back-to-school time ! Here at the library ,
MARTIN we ’ re staying busy with all manner of activities for all ages . September is National Library Card Sign-up Month , and we want you ! Starting in September , those signing up for a library card can choose between the regular and the limited-edition designs . It will also be available as a replacement card ( if you ask nicely ), while supplies last ! Also this month — it ’ s Fines for Food ! Get 50 % off overdue fines from Sept . 10-16 , with all proceeds donated to Wilsonville Community Sharing . ( For in-person payments at Wilsonville Library only ; does not include lost / damaged charges or out-of-area fees .)
Also — please note we ’ ll be closed on Labor Day , Monday , Sept . 4 . See you on the 5th !
For adults :
Our popular First Friday Films matinee continues on Friday , Sept . 1 at 3 p . m . September ’ s film is “ Avatar : The Way of Water ” ( PG-13 ). Jake Sully and Ney ’ tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together . However , they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora . When an ancient threat resurfaces , Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans . Join us for this free movie , along with snacks , popcorn , and now … even padded chairs !
Every Tuesday in September ( the 5th , 12th , 19th and 26th ) you can meet with a representative from ODHS ( the Oregon Department of Human Services ), who may be able to help you with housing or other social service matters . The representative will be at the library from 10 a . m . to 12 p . m ., and again after lunch , from 1 to 3 p . m . No appointments or signups
are needed .
Our fun PROFILES lectures will continue on Wednesday , Sept . 6 at 11 a . m . Taught by Emeritus Professor Bill Thierfelder , this online program covers the life of playwright Tennessee Williams . Williams , the celebrated American playwright and gay icon , is perhaps best known for his plays “ The Glass Menagerie ,” “ A Streetcar Named Desire ” and “ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof .” Many of his works gained further recognition as movie adaptations , starring classic Hollywood stars such as Marlon Brando , Kirk Douglas , Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor . On Monday , Sept . 18 at 1 p . m ., super sleuth Malia will host Genealogy Club ! Join a growing group of genealogists of all levels from the Wilsonville area to discuss genealogy tips , tricks and research . These discussions are informal in nature and are moderated by Librarian Malia Laughton . New members at any level are always welcome !
On Thursday , Sept . 21 , how about joining us for a refreshing walk in the cooling weather ? Our popular bookwalk departs from the library and journeys all the way to the deepest recesses of Memorial Park ! During the walk we ’ ll talk about this month ’ s book : “ The Martian ” by Andy Weir ( or anything else you ’ ve been reading ), and perhaps compliment the weather . Meet in the library ’ s lobby at 1 p . m ., and then we will walk over to ( and through ) Memorial Park . Walks generally last about 45 minutes , and meet rain or shine .
Also on Thursday , Sept . 21 , at 6 p . m ., please join us at the library for a free History Talk . Presented by Sig Unander , the lecture is titled , “ Home Front Heroines : The Women Who Built America ’ s Arsenal of Democracy .” When men went off to war , women stepped from homes into factories to make the ships , planes , armament and vehicles that enabled America to win World War II and become a postwar superpower . Mr . Unander ’ s lectures are always well researched and well attended . No need to sign up in advance — just come in and find a seat !
Finally , we have a new staff member to introduce — please meet our new outreach librarian , Crystal Reynolds ! Crystal recently moved back to Oregon from Arizona , and we ’ re thrilled to have her here ! You might see her at a community event , City picnic , or festival , or just around town , helping introduce Wilsonville citizens to the library and all it offers !

For kids :
On Saturday , Sept . 9 at 11 a . m ., please join former Youth Librarian Steve Engelfried with your family for a special live presentation of Funny Folktales . Steven and his puppet helpers Pink Pig and Rooster will dramatize three classic tales especially adapted for puppetry : “ The Boy Who Cried Wolf ,” “ The Gunniwolf ” and “ The Wide-Mouthed Frog .” No reservations necessary .
Hooray ! Family Storytime has returned after its summer reading hiatus ! You and your children are invited to join the Library ’ s Youth Services staff , who will share their favorite stories in their own creative bled of storytelling and early learning fun ! Happens on most Wednesdays and Thursdays ( Sept . 13 , 14 , 20 , 21 , 27 and 28 ) at 10:30 a . m .
Baby / Toddler Time meets this month on Tuesdays , Sept . 12 , 19 and 26 at 10:30 a . m . or 11:15 a . m . ( there are two sessions on each day ). Youth Programming Librarians Brad , Jo and Sam engage babies & toddlers in interactive stories , songs , rhymes and play to help build skills for reading readiness ! Join us each week for more fun ways to grow up loved and wise .
Play Group meets on two Fridays this month ; Sept . 15th and 22 . Drop in anytime from 10 a . m . to 12 p . m . and let the kiddos play with a variety of toys , as well as socialize with others . For children ages birth to 6 with their grownups .
On Saturday , Sept . 16th from 10 a . m . to noon , junior bicyclists can join us in the library parking lot for SMART ’ s free Bike Rodeo ! A drop-in event for kids of all ages including an agility course to test bike skills and free minor bike repairs .
STEAM Stuff is happening on Wednesdays the 13th and 27th at 1 p . m . Designed for elementary school ( kindergarten to fifth grade ) kids with an adult in attendance , STEAM Stuff features hands-on science activities for the junior set !
For teens :
