SPW: Do you think God approves of your humor? Kevin: That’s a great question. We’ve been rebuked and sent to hell for every video since we were kids. Jason, Anthony and I really GREW UP in church. We were in church 4-5 times a week. We were in the back playing church just like we do now, in between regular service, 3:30 service and night service. We are comedians but we never demean God or make fun of the Lord, we take our salvation very seriously. But funny things happen in church and I believe God has a sense of humor. I think laughter is a medicine, that’s in the bible, and church people can take themselves too seriously. Sometimes you need a little bit of levity. We’ve had testimony after testimony of someone saying “I was really down, or someone died, and your videos were the only thing that made me feel better”. Why would God not use that gift [comedy] to uplift His people? Everyone doesn’t have to like it, but just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean the person is going to hell. Jason: I agree with Kevin. Kevin answered it the way we all would have. People like to say the things we do in our videos mock God. We’ve never mocked God; we mock people. If somebody says to me, “that’s blasphemy” I think maybe you need to go study blasphemy and figure out what that is, then come and tell me if that’s what we’re doing. Or go talk with your pastor. If you’re that uptight about it, [our comedy] it’s probably not for you. Ju st like my pastor might not be like your pastor, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t both great pastors. This is our area of gifting and your gifts will make room for you. Our gift has made a lot of room for us. We went from writing stage plays as The Playmakers, to a digital platform and having success there, to where we had a meeting yesterday about television and movies.
