ways to work and distribute content while in quarantine . Many broadcasters , content owners , and studios turned to Ateliere Creative Technologies ’ cloud-native digital content supply chain and distribution platform to ensure continuity of supply and entertain audiences on a global scale . AWS : We have absolutely seen a greater reliance on cloud-based workflows throughout the pandemic . Due to the remote work mandates , many of our M & E customers could no longer leverage on-premises resources to provide interactive experiences for their creatives and had to find new ways of collaborating and accessing those resources . Physically shipping workstations and machines to every creative with critical assets on them would not be cost-effective , environmentally sound , nor secure . Many creative studios looked to cloud-based tools like the content lake architecture pattern with application latency requirements based on tiered infrastructure services such as AWS Local Zones , AWS Outposts , or AWS Wavelengths . Bridge : From a wider market perspective , the second question relating to cloud-based services is in essence the answer to the first question regarding challenges : increasing dependence on the cloud presents a series of complex problems to be solved . The central and very obvious issues are the increased demand on network infrastructures , and the need for tools that facilitate collaborative working at the production end of the chain . The cloud sits at the heart of both , and both are areas that Bridge has been engaged in pushing forward with from long before the pandemic . Broadpeak : Based on the CDN services that Broadpeak provides to operators , we definitely saw a global increase in content consumption , with specific peaks in live content related to official announcements about the pandemic . Interra : Software that has a web-based UI can be accessed via any device , which it makes it so flexible and easy , no matter where you are in the world Those responsible for critical media operations have seen tremendous benefits from running their infrastructure on the cloud . Over this period , since the pandemic began , as a company Interra Systems has seen a huge increase in interest in cloud-based QC , monitoring , and video analysis software . Mediaproxy : The cloud is certainly a big winner here . It was technically already happening before the pandemic , but certainly became a necessity after Covid hit and facilities relied heavily on remote operations and working from home . It is something that will only increase in usage , even after the worst of the pandemic . Pebble : Yes , it is more important than ever for broadcasters and service providers to
have secure , remote access to their playout environment , even more so when our customers ’ systems can comprise of multiple channels across several playout sites and in cloud deployments . Plume : We can point to a number of causes for the increase in cloud-based services . To provide the types of services that consumers now need , including cybersecurity to stay safe , parental controls to keep kids who are at home on track , and motion detection to keep track of loved ones who are harder to visit , requires computation in the cloud . There simply isn ’ t infrastructure in people ’ s homes that can do the type of sophisticated AI processing to run these types of services . Similarly , the increased networking loads require more sophisticated network optimisation , particularly across entire apartment complexes , that simply can ’ t be done by the consumer grade infrastructure in people ’ s homes without assistance from the cloud . Finally , the lockdown has resulted in a shortage of semiconductors , which makes upgrading the equipment in homes difficult . The cloud is a fast , affordable , and available way to bring new services and capabilities under the circumstances . Synamedia : We ’ ve continued to see an uptake in cloud-based services irrespective of the pandemic and challenges of lockdown . Demand for video networks cloud-based technology has been increasing steadily , driven
by its cost savings benefits , flexibility , and the ability to embrace faster innovation cycles . There may be a positive correlation between Covid-19 and video cloud-services demand , but not necessarily a causation . Torque : The portions of the broadcast ecosystem that have been migrating to cloud over the past few years are still migrating to cloud . While last year saw a huge slowdown in business and deployment of new projects , I would say that everything has just “ woken up ” again in the second half of 2021 . VIAVI : As more people work and study from home , remote connectivity is more critical than ever , putting greater emphasis on cloudbased services and virtualised networking . Prior to the pandemic , service providers had already begun turning to technologies like automation and virtualisation to control costs while improving the customer experience . The current situation has only accelerated the adoption of these advanced technologies . Have there been additional demands on Content Delivery Networks ? Accedo : Yes , I imagine CDNs are very under pressure as video being used left , right , and centre . At Accedo , we advise turning on video if you can because we believe that this is the best way to be engaging with others . For remote working to deliver , people need to be active in virtual interactions . Ateliere : Ateliere ’ s cloud-native supply chain
