With science now clear that, along with nutrition and exercise, sleep is an essential pillar of good health, setting up a snooze-promoting space is a health and happiness no-brainer.

“ If you’ re having trouble with your sleep or you would like to improve the quality, then one of the most important things is to have a space that is reserved for rest,” says Dr Andrew Bradbeer, sleep medicine specialist and CEO of Manse Medical.“ Everyone’ s home is different, but, if at all possible, [ it’ s ideal to ] enter a different space from where you do your daily activity to sleep at night-time.”
Just as we sleep-train babies with cues like a lullaby or bedtime story, Dr Bradbeer says that making our bedroom a dedicated sleep zone can trigger adult brains to nod off.
“ Whatever you can do to create an environment that helps your brain to realise that we’ re now entering sleep time can be helpful,” he explains.“ There’ s a lot of relatively easy wins to be had with sleep – we know that if you focus on improving your sleep, then your quality of life and your future health improves measurably.” >
