Gert Roos wins R230 000 John Deere Gator 855D T he winner of the Senwes Equipment and John Deere Gator competition, the second leg of the WIN BIG competition, is Gert Roos. Gert really wanted to win the gator and used an interesting strategy to enter. He checked the number of ‘likes’ on the Senwes facebook-page and adjusted his number of entries accordingly. The 23-year old producer from the Belfast area entered numerous times. So much so that his whole family and friends knew it. A friend, Herman Smallberger, even scared him by telling him that the cost of the sms's was much higher than the 86c. Gert was very concerned and even his mother, Tharia, was part of the plot. No wonder Gert was shocked when Senwes contacted him with the news that he was the winner. He thought it was his family playing tricks on him again. Fortunately on Wednesday, 9 November 2016, he officially received his prize, which he will put to good use on their farm Leeubank in Wonderfontein, Mpumalanga. He will use the gator to herd sheep, visit his fields, planters and sprayers on the farm of approximately 3 000 hectares, on which they farm with maize as well as sunflower. He has never won anything before and because they teased him, mother Tharia, father Gerrit as well as brother Heinrich will be jealous of him riding around the farm on his John Deere Gator. He had the last laught after all! The newly established trademark of Senwes Equipment, together with John Deere, received wide exposure on social media with more than 100 000 people reached since the beginning of the range of competitions. 18 842 entries were received. 46 DEC ’16/JAN ’17 • SENWES Scenario
