t is important to remember that gardening should not stop
during autumn and winter. Autumn is the time to prepare
your garden for the winter ahead.
Trees and shrubs which are frost sensitive can be covered
with frost cover to protect them against the first frost, which
usually occurs in mid-April in many parts of South Africa. Good
mulch layers below shrubs and sensitive trees will also keep
the soil warmer and protect shallow roots during the cold winter
nights.
