THURSDAY SERVICE PROGRAMME
We have worked hard to find creative ways to enable over 400 students to take part in more than 25 projects in our Thursday service programme . Students created mud kitchens for local primary school children , and a new weekly Lego club now brings together over 400 pupils each week ! It was certainly a joy to see students returning to our primary schools in the Summer term to paint outdoor classrooms and fencing , and to clear forest schools .
PARTNERSHIPS
Turning to our wider partnerships work , several new outreach boxes have been added in areas such as music , history , sport and environmental understanding . Teacher development sessions have continued and the Kent Academies Network and Knole Academy partnership have grown new life in an online form . Many of our local partner schools joined us in the annual collection of books and STEM resources for EduSpots .
FOOD AND HYGIENE COLLECTIONS
Perhaps the enduring memory of the year was the school ’ s response to the national debate about free school meals and the students ’ desire to respond to the shocking food poverty in our local area . The amount of food and hygiene donated across the year in our weekly collections , but particularly at Christmas , was remarkable . Supporting our local community was indeed often at the forefront of students ’ minds with Anna Tarasheva launching her third Sevenoaks Sounds online concert for older people .
We are passionate about the importance of service and partnerships being collaborative , informed , sustainable , inclusive and reflective . We work in close collaboration with 80 schools and the ISC Schools Community Action to improve service and partnerships at Sevenoaks and other schools . This conversation is critical , ongoing and open to all reflections , as we try to use education as a tool to create a fairer and more sustainable society .
