REFLECTIONS ON OS SPORT
One of the highlights of teaching at Sevenoaks has been the chance to meet up with Old Sennockians at various OS sporting events .
The annual cricket fixture between the OS and the school 1st XI is always entertaining , and a great chance to catch up with the guys who represented the school from as far back as 1989 !
I had the pleasure to go on tour with the OS Old Guard rugby team in Biarritz in 2019 and played three games for them during the Biarritz Beach Touch Rugby tournament . I admit , it was without much success , as I was voted by my fellow teammates as one of the three worst players in the squad !
I have also attended the hilarious Old Guard Christmas Dinner on many occasions and have been incredibly impressed by the quality of their carol singing and storytelling !
Over the last few years , I have thoroughly enjoyed being on the touchline , normally with Alex Smith , supporting the OS at numerous football matches . The team plays in a competitive league and is enthusiastically and passionately led by Joe Walker ( OS 2012 ).
In all three sports the one thing that stands out for me is the great camaraderie and friendships that exist between all the OS players , and the real enjoyment that they take from representing the OS at sport .

As he prepares for retirement , Phil Hulston , who has been a pillar of the school ’ s sports provision during his 20 years at Sevenoaks , reflects on what Old Sennockian fixtures have meant to him , as they begin to return after a year of disruption .

Hopefully , in retirement , I will have more time to go and support the OS , but I do not hold out much hope of being selected for the Old Guard rugby team again !
