The garden is nice to stroll around . Archaeologists discovered the patterns the hedges had been planted in and this has been reconstructed . There is also a wooden shed in the garden and as you step in , a creepy mannequin farmer greets you ! Further into the small shed , there is a table that displays the food Romans in Britain ate back then , and information on the garden and the plants they ate .
If you are wanting to look at old artefacts that they have found in Fishbourne Palace , Domestic Life is the workshop to attend . Here we learnt about Fishbourne Palace ’ s history , and we even got to handle the artefacts and try to work out what they told us about Roman life in Britain . We also saw a reconstruction of a Roman kitchen .
In the Fishbourne Fashions workshop we discovered more about Celtic and Roman princesses and princes . We learnt about the materials of the clothing and jewellery that they would wear , how they were made and how they showed their status . Four of us in each group got to try on the clothes .

In the last week of the Summer term , the whole of Year 7 went to Fishbourne Roman Palace for our first secondary school trip .

Fishbourne is the biggest Roman villa in Britain , and it is believed to have belonged to Togidubnus Rex , the king of the Atrebates tribe , based in southern Britain . The palace was built in the 1st century CE , and it burned down in the late 3rd century CE .
In the Military Matters workshop , we learned all about a typical Roman soldier , from what soldiers wore , to their battle techniques . We got to try out some of the uniform and learnt the theory behind different pieces of armour and clothing . In addition , we got an insight into the Roman ranks in the army and why the Roman army was so successful in battle .
We gave the gift shop , with its range of items , from honey to mini-catapults , ten out of ten ! The coach journeys there and back were extremely fun ; while we were driving , we listened to music and the coach was very comfy . Overall , it was a five-star experience .
