Thankfully in the Summer term we were able to attend a few ( albeit scaled down ) competitions . We had a Year 9 and Year 10 team entered into the KSSA team racing championships where we finished third and fifth . Our U19s finished third at the Thames Valley and Southeast area championships . The year finished with us hosting the BSDRA Team Racing Finals , where our A team finished third-placed school overall , with the B team placed ninth and the top performing B team .
A notable performance outside of school came from Captain of Sailing Will Caiger , who along with fellow Upper Sixth students Tom Baulkwill and India Trenowden claimed victory at the inaugural RYA U19 Match Racing Championships in Weymouth at the end of June . Will said : ‘ We had never raced keelboats before the championships and after only a few short hours of practice on Friday we were thrown right into the round-robin stages on Saturday . Making a few mistakes in the lighter wind cost us some races , but after a strong end to the second round-robin in windier conditions on Sunday morning we were poised to attack the semi-finals with a much better feel for the boat . Winning our semi-final on boat speed alone , we went into the final feeling confident . However , some pre-start penalties and unforced errors left us 2-0 down in the best of five . With the wind building we were able to take it to an intense fifth and final race where the grit and determination of my crew led us to a strong finish to take the championship .’
