Michaelmas term 2016 marked a full year
since the club moved into the new range.
Having rebuilt the club from 12 members in
September 2015 to over 60 a year later, we
all felt ready and excited to build on progress
made the previous year.
The club continued to grow steadily, and
our team shooters continued to improve
upon the previous season. The many new
applicants to the club underwent the
probationary course; an exciting time for
a new cohort of experienced Sixth Form
shooters who assisted Mr West in running
this course. In the winter season, Cecilia
Catuogno-Cal and Alberta Leonard shot
for the Kent County Ladies team and we
contributed six shooters to the Kent County
Juniors squad.

In the Summer term, we were pleased to
retain the NSRA shield which we felt was a
reflection of the growing strength in depth
of our squad. The seasonal joys of that time
of year were sweetened by the crushing
victory of the Shooting B team in their first
two matches. Above all, the selection of
two of our shooters for the England team
in the UK schools’ match was the high point
of the year, with Axel Susini selected for
the England B team and Cecilia Catuogno-
Cal selected for the England A team. Both
enjoyed excellent seasons and we were all
pleased that the year finished with such a
clear reflection of this.

We all found it an excellent end to the year
when our Ashburton Fours team came in
third place in the competition.

The leadership of the club throughout the
year has been exemplary. Our captain Cecilia
Catuogno-Cal has distinguished herself time
and time again and has proved not only
thoroughly knowledgeable in marksmanship,
but the glue that has held the club together.
Equally, we find ourselves increasingly
indebted to Mr Henderson-Thynne who not
only led us through a successful Ashburton
meeting, but ensured that we were able to
shoot in the Lent and Summer terms. We
look forward to 2017-18 with optimism,
hopeful for a continuation of this year’s
