facilities such as three Olympic-sized swimming pools, a newly refurbished track, a mini golf course and a private water sports lagoon. The constant sun and summer temperatures meant we certainly enjoyed our escape from the UK! Throughout the trip we partook in multiple running and swimming sessions per day, and also tried other new activities to complement our training, such as Stretch and Relax, Pilates, Absolute Abs and Yoga. No one did this better than Vita de Munck, Clara Tyler, Lexi Marza and Isabella Bristow who managed to try out every single activity the resort had to offer – quite an amazing feat! Of course, we did have time to enjoy the other, more relaxed activities Club La Santa provided such as beach volleyball, windsurfing and racket ball as well as celebrate the New Year together with some music, dancing and fireworks. A few stand-out achievements from the trip were: Ingmar Gunn winning the aquathon, duathlon and coming second in the triathlon against some stiff competition from the much more experienced athletes at the resort; Gregor Watson coming second in the kayak race; Charlie Lindsay coming to every single swimming session despite having a fractured leg; and, of course, all of the Lower and Middle School runners who matched every session the Upper School athletes did throughout the trip. Cri cket tour to G renada On the first Monday in July we all boarded the plane for Grenada, West Indies. The squad consisted of 15 players, ranging from Upper Sixth to Year 10, and the coaches, Mr Hulston, Mr Holden and Mr Smith. Throughout our time in Grenada we explored the island, visiting the capital St Georges, snorkelling, visiting a 200-year-old rum distillery – the rum was 80% alcohol and tasted more like poison – and swimming next to a tropical waterfall. It did not take us long to find out that the Grenadian 6 batsmen were ultra-aggressive and not afraid innings, despite some spirited fight from the team. The final record was two wins and of smashing a good length ball over the four losses. ring field. In fact it meant that most of our wickets were caught on the boundary. Bowler of the tour was Peter Wright with These unfamiliar conditions meant it took us figures of 24.3-2-70-9 and Batsman of the a while for our tour to really get firing, as we tour was Nick Bett with 190 runs at an average of 38. Our sixth and final game was nail-biting but we just fell short with the bat in the second SPORT CROSS COUNTRY LANZAROTE TRAINING CAMP On 29 December 2016 a group of 39 runners, swimmers and teachers landed in Lanzarote, excited for the coming week of sport. We were to stay at the incredible Club La Santa, a sports resort where top Olympic athletes come to train and which boasts SEVENOAKS SCHOOL 2016-2017 We would like to thank Mr Holden and Mrs Glover for organising the trip, Jon for planning every swimming session and Mrs Lewis, Miss Shah and Mrs Glover for giving up their holiday to help out with the sessions.
