SAILING

A year of growth and achievement

The sailing programme at Sevenoaks School continues to thrive, offering students a wide range of experiences in dinghy and keel boat sailing, including fleet racing, team racing and match racing. Over 80 students competed in 25 regattas this academic year, representing the school at regional, national and international levels. Sailing at Sevenoaks is about more than competition – it builds resilience, teamwork and lifelong friendships, both on and off the water.
This year, two exciting new events were added to the calendar: the Youth Icicle Winter Race Series and the 2v2 Keelboat Team Racing, hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club. Both were a great success and will become regular fixtures.
A stellar Summer term was had, with Sevenoaks sailors achieving podium finishes at six consecutive regattas. We were the top school at the RS Feva Nationals for the second year running and had the top all-girls boat in both junior and senior divisions at the Itchenor Sailing Club National Schools Championship, with three boats in the senior top ten. We’ ve seen team racing championships victories, and students have represented Great Britain at the Team Racing World Championships and the 29er European Championship.
A personal highlight was the Firefly Inland Championship at Bough Beech Sailing Club, where students and Old Sennockians competed together in a 41-boat fleet, celebrating the strength of the Sevenoaks sailing community, which was also evident in the third OS Cornah Cup event( you can read more about this in the Alumni pages).
We also extend our thanks to Miss Caswell, whose coaching and support over the past two years have made a lasting impact on the RS Feva programme.

This year in sailing has been very exciting and has been marked by what seems to be an even more busy calendar than usual, stretching the hardworking coaches we are all so grateful for. Through their initiative, we now participate in more events than ever and in many different classes of boats.
