MUSIC AROUND THE WORLD
The Lent term charity concert was an exceptional evening filled with impressive performances of songs from around the world.
Simona Dell( Lower Sixth) opened the evening with a captivating performance of‘ Pasilyo’ in Tagalog, setting the tone for a night filled with energy and heart. Highlights included Sofiia Reshetnik’ s( Year 10) Ukrainian ballad‘ Cry’ and the lively rendition of‘ Africa’ by The Mavericks( Year 8), which had the audience clapping along.
A standout moment of the night came from The Shady Teachers, who performed two songs, one in French and an original track in English – that had the crowd buzzing. Their lively stage presence brought a unique energy to the event, and they proved to be one of the evening’ s most memorable acts.
A particularly touching performance came from Zhamilya Pazylkhair( Lower Sixth), who chose to perform her song in the dark as a poignant way to connect the experience of blindness with the theme of the concert. This gesture resonated with the audience, bringing a moment of reflection on the cause we were supporting.

Celebrating our internationalism with songs in many languages.

The concert raised £ 576, all of which will go towards Mariana de Jesús, a school for blind children in Quito, Ecuador, a place that holds personal significance to me. Having lived in Quito, I’ ve witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by children with visual impairments, and I’ ve seen how schools like Mariana de Jesus play a key role in their lives. The funds raised will help provide essential Braille books and teaching materials, ensuring that these children can access the education they need and have the opportunity to gain autonomy and succeed in life.
A heartfelt thank you to all the performers; Mr Palmer, who made the event possible; our wonderful Lower Sixth hosts Leo Hickey and Daniel Fielding; Finlay Hawkins and Freya Aspinall, who helped organise, and everyone who attended and supported the event. Your contribution is making a tangible difference to the lives of children in need.
