LIFE IN NEW HOUSE
© Philip Vile

Among the trees between Park Grange and the IC is our youngest addition to the boarding landscape, the aptly named New House, already a much-loved term-time home for some 60 boarders.

Although the house community has only existed for two years and the physical house for just over half of that, New House has already made a positive impact on both the boarding community and the lives of those who live in it, including mine.
Upon joining Sevenoaks I was quite nervous and worried about what boarding school would be like. However, I soon realised that there was no reason for this as within a couple of minutes of entering the house I was cheerfully approached by our wonderful housemistress, Mrs Edwards, who from that day onwards has made me feel completely at home in a new country and school. I later met the rest of the boarding staff including Mrs Tate, Miss Won and our matron, Julia. The boarding team have been tireless in their efforts to make sure that every girl has the best experience possible, whether checking up on us, organising trips to London or supporting us with our homework.
Having so many incredible teachers available to us is a resource that some students do not have and one we are very grateful for. The family that these teachers created has been completed by the diverse range of girls. The friendships I have made in this house will last a lifetime thanks to the experience of sharing a room, eating meals together, playing volleyball on the lawn, or talking with each other late at night. Our daily routine in the house helps us succeed in both academic and co-curricular activities. The two hours set aside for prep means that it is easier to stay on track with schoolwork and there are always at least 11 people who are learning the same content. The two-minute commute( walk) to school leaves us time to immerse ourselves in the wide range of activities available and there’ s always something going on.
My time at New House has given me some of the most valuable experiences of my life and I cannot wait to see where this house and all the talented people in it go next.
