ATHLETICS
The athletics season was remarkable , distinguished by record student participation and an increasingly competitive fixture list . These developments have cemented Sevenoaks as one of the strongest schools in the south-east . Consequently , more students have experienced the competitive environment of athletics , leading to impressive representations at both county and national levels .
Our athletics programme enables students to gain competitive experience and explore their potential through tailored training sessions in their chosen disciplines . Among the standout performers this term were Scarlett Fletcher ( Year 8 ), Saskia Taylor ( Year 9 ), Elwood Smith ( Year 9 ) and Linus Thielen ( Year 11 ). Despite varying levels of experience , their dedication and regular attendance at after-school training propelled them to new heights , resulting in impressive personal bests .
Looking ahead , we aim to boost participation at after-school sessions , and are designing sessions to provide the level of engagement required to meet our anticipated numbers .
We also plan to introduce an indoor season in September and will explore further opportunities to provide year-round athletic experiences for our students .
Many have also joined local clubs , such as Sevenoaks AC and Tonbridge AC , to further explore their potential , and the rewards of extra training and commitment are clear . Saskia Taylor ’ s remarkable journey from swimmer to national-level athlete exemplifies this . Breaking numerous school records and excelling in competitions , she earned a well-deserved call-up for England . Saskia ’ s success story , having discovered athletics by chance , highlights the potential that focused training can unlock .
A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated staff , whose efforts have been instrumental in helping students reach their potential . Their involvement , from participating in track sessions to providing coaching expertise and humour , has made a significant impact . This commitment is integral to raising enthusiasm and securing full engagement from our students .
In summary , this term ’ s achievements in athletics have been outstanding and the future is filled with potential .
