MUSIC AT SEVENOAKS LEGENDS CHORAL CONCERT
Choirs of all ages paid homage to rock and pop legends in an evening crackling with excitement .
At the end of the Michaelmas term , I was fortunate to be able to take part in the Legends concert organised by Mr Thomas Harvey . To say that this concert was enjoyable would be an understatement . As a choral singer , it was extremely refreshing and exciting to sing much more contemporary music than the classical pieces I am used to . As one might be able to deduce from the name of the concert , it aimed to pay homage to iconic musicians , and it did not disappoint , featuring the work of solo artists such as Michael Jackson , Adele , Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel , and that of famous bands such as Queen , ABBA , Coldplay and the Beach Boys .
Their iconic songs were performed by students from all years , in musical groups ranging from the mighty Choral Society to the Year 7 Choir . Everything was sung uniquely and amazingly by talented students , with the programme including pop songs such as ‘ Set Fire to The Rain ’ and ‘ Thriller ’, and rock anthems such as ‘ Bohemian Rhapsody ’ and ‘ We Will Rock You ’.
Students also played the backing tracks to some of the songs . I was invited to play the trombone , alongside other brass instruments , saxophones and drums , for the finale , ‘ Eye of The Tiger ’. In addition to this , I also performed in the Choral Society and Sennocke Consort , and with both I had great fun in rehearsals leading up to this amazing concert .
My favourite moment was perhaps singing ‘ Bohemian Rhapsody ’ in Choral Society ; 100 students , singing arguably the greatest song of all time , unleashed a wave of excited gasps from the audience – especially the Year 7s in the front row ! Overall , I really cannot emphasise enough how exhilarating and memorable the Legends concert was .
