CONNECTING CULTURES WEEK
WELLBEING
In this year ’ s EDI Week , we explored our different cultures and made unexpected connections .
Sevenoaks represents a plethora of cultures and thus diversity . So , when deciding what the theme for EDI Week should be , we were all drawn to the idea of Connecting Cultures . As a school community of many different cultures , religions and nationalities , it is crucial that we celebrate them all and to do that we need to be aware of their traditions and beliefs .
Connecting Cultures Week took place in January and we began most days delivering assemblies to each year group , which included a video clip showing the cultures that our student body and teachers identify with . This ranged from British to Indian to Lebanese to even Sennockian . Diversity at Sevenoaks is a given , but it was illuminating to see that many teachers and students have not only lived all over the world , but also identify with more than two cultures .
On the Tuesday , we conducted a bake sale where we were able to raise over £ 100 by selling cupcakes , cookies and cake pops . All the proceeds from this week went to Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees . The Culture Fair , our main event , happened on the Wednesday . It was clear while setting up that people were passionate and ready to share their cultures . We had Americans with tide pods , Irish playing ‘ Guess
