SENIOR ATHLETICS
Throughout my time at Sevenoaks , I ’ ve had frequent exposure to sporting opportunities outside of our usual fixture list . This is thanks to the PE and Sport department who have provided a strong foundation to build on , as well as their desire to support students who want to pursue sport to a higher level . This has been vital for me personally in terms of mental and physical preparation for national and international competitions . During the Summer term , athletics provides unique opportunities to excel , through competitions like the Kent Schools Athletics Championships , which can be a great stepping stone towards regional , and potentially , national competitions . For aspiring athletes these events are invaluable platforms to stand out and display the talent and hard work that goes into athletics throughout the year .

Having competed for the school athletics team for six years , I can safely say that athletics fixtures are a highlight of my Summer term . Whether students are competing because they love athletics or because it ’ s a great way to get fit for other sports , athletics is a wonderful opportunity for all those who select it as their Summer term option . Athletics fixtures are an excellent way to try new things in a supportive environment . Every year students try new events and compete against a range of schools . Often they are surprised about their ability in events they haven ’ t done before , which gives a great sense of achievement . Athletics fixtures are unusual in bringing together a mixed team across all year groups . It is a great experience for everyone , whether you are sharing your experience or learning new skills . Students gain a sense of responsibility through athletics , taking charge of what they compete in and getting to that event on time . The same goes for training , in which a choice is given about which running distance to take part in , and which field event .
