Our musicians also experimented with pieces that deliberately broke away from norms .
WA Mozart ’ s Fantasia in D minor K397 , free of formal strictures and full of inspiration , was played with flair by Prity Laloux ( Lower Sixth ). Lachlan Edwards ( Lower Sixth ) encapsulated freedom from traditional music rules pertaining to the tonal hierarchy through his performance of Arnold Schoenberg ’ s Op 11 . What was truly special to me was the sense of rapport manifested in the final performance . The Space Collective was joined by all the musicians in a rendition of Frederic Rzewski ’ s Les Moutons de Panurge , an anarchic musical experiment with political undertones .
Being part of a student body with roughly 70 nationalities and a variety of beliefs has allowed me to recognise the importance of diversity in the arts . I must thank Mr Wey who has put hours of work into each of these phenomenal concerts and allowed all of us to enjoy the richness that music provides , made up of the works of both contemporary and classical composers of all backgrounds .
