LOOKING FORWARD TO NEW INNOVATIONS AND CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION
We have exchanged the logistical challenges of lockdowns with more conceptual challenges related to the future of secondary education , such as AI . But perhaps something should be said about the potential benefits .
It has been an amazing academic year at Sevenoaks School . If the pandemic taught us one thing , it is that in-person , collaborative teaching and learning is absolutely crucial to students ’ progress and approach to study . We have exchanged the logistical challenges of lockdowns and online lessons with more conceptual challenges related to the future of secondary education , which can only be a good thing in the long run . At Sevenoaks School , the Institute of Teaching and Learning , our hub for educational research and collaboration , will hold its biennial Teaching and Learning conference in October , postponed from 2020 , at which many of the issues facing teachers and educators today will be discussed .
One challenge which raised itself this academic year was the dramatic increase in sophistication ( and public awareness ) of Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) tools , especially those related to the creation of text . It quickly became a cliché to write articles or speeches about AI using AI ( not what is happening here , by the way ). There were lots of comments in the media about how this would mean the end of
