emotive , through its clever and deeply impactful design . It was very poignant for us to experience the discomfort and claustrophobia of conditions in order to begin to understand the horrors of the Holocaust .
Visiting the German Resistance Museum , we learned about Nazi resistance within the army and education , as well as from brave individuals . This was very affecting also , as the museum was the Nazi army headquarters where Hitler instructed senior officers and shot traitors who tried to resist . A group which really interested us was the White Rose , a university resistance group which distributed anti-Nazi pamphlets , inspiring us by the sacrifice they were willing to make for what they believed in .
Alongside all this rich history , we were also shown the rich and diverse culture of Berlin through the various areas and sights , and the welcoming people . From black-light mini golf to watching a play , we were able to explore the vibrant city through both a historical and a progressive lens , especially through the Connections Exhibition we saw on the last day which looks to the future and the goals Berlin is trying to achieve , using the foundation of the past .
I would like to thank all the teachers who accompanied us : Dr Spindler , Mr MacBain , Mrs Mack and Mrs FitzGerald . Thank you for all the knowledge and joy you brought to this trip !

PHYSICS STUDY TRIP TO GENEVA
Forty of us joined the IB Physics trip to Geneva , staying in a youth hostel near the centre of the city ; perfect because most places we visited were accessible by tram or bus . On our first morning , we headed to the United Nations Headquarters . Those of us who participated in Model United Nations were particularly fascinated to witness conferences taking place : we sat in viewing rooms and listened to the proceedings , reflecting on our experiences of writing resolutions and making speeches . I learned that the working languages of the UNHQ are English and French , but translations in six languages were available .
The buildings were also filled with artwork from around the world . From a € 20m multicoloured ceiling of stalactites , painted by a Spanish artist to appear to be ‘ dripping ,’ to the framed prints of the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights , visual imagery flooded the senses , the contributions of so many countries on display .
The old town of Geneva was equally stunning . The cobbled streets weave through the city , hiding quaint cafes and shops . Exploring the city , we stumbled across more than 15 giant chess boards and paused to watch the dedicated players . Some of us climbed the cathedral tower for the even more picturesque view . That night , we dipped bread in cheese fondue at a bustling restaurant , excited to sample Geneva ’ s speciality .
