ODE AN DAS DEUTSCH
In early December , the German and Music departments collaborated to produce the outstanding experience that was the Ode an das Deutsch concert .
The concert was a mixture of music and cultural appreciation and it started off with the famous Toccata in D Minor by Bach , played by the Symphony Orchestra with Nicholas Leung on the organ . Another highlight of the evening was the Lower Sixth ’ s short dramatisation involving Beethoven and his relevance to the Enlightenment , which brought a lot of laughter to the room , partly thanks to the historically accurate costumes worn by the actors . This introduced the first movement of the Symphony No . 5 in C Minor by Beethoven , which was played shortly afterwards .
The Space Collective ’ s performance of ‘ Die Roboter ’ by Kraftwerk was truly a sight to behold , and the array of electronic synthesisers and sampling devices along with the vocoded singers made it one of the most memorable acts of the evening .
