Creating Picnic at Hanging Rock was amazing . Working with Miss Jay , the director , we started off workshopping – physically exploring different elements and the tone of the play . We also spent a lot of time discussing the themes and message of the play , and how we were going to portray these on stage .
The set was five tables and a number of chairs , yet through our creativity we managed to transform the stage into different places , such as a classroom , bracken and Hanging Rock itself . There were ups and downs – that is inevitable in any rehearsal process . However , even under stress , we always kept up a positive and encouraging attitude . Together we created a space where everyone could learn , grow and develop their acting skills .
Although we had difficulties , and were affected by the pandemic , we pulled through together and became an ensemble – a team – of incredible actors . I was so proud of our work , of our talent and our unity . We were all very grateful to have worked under Miss Jay , a truly marvellous director who saw the best in us , and to all the staff members and students who contributed to this production , whether it was through tech design , stage design , costumes or even moral support .
This journey is one that I ’ ll never forget . Somto Chukwuma , Lower Sixth ( playing Edith )
