GATSBY
With isolated year groups forcing the production into two main casts , staging Gatsby was a hugely challenging endeavour . Nevertheless , the casts and crew celebrated 40 years of the Sackville Theatre immaculately , with the flair and elegance of the Jazz Age .
THE LOWER SIXTH CAST
Jay Gatsby ( Tito Adetunji ) and Daisy Buchannan ( PJ Birt ) revealed both the beautiful and fragmented pieces of their relationship with the utmost subtlety and passion . Equally so was the somewhat complicated relationship between Gatsby and Nick Carraway , the latter played by Louis Dunn , who develop a strong friendship .
From the ‘ valley of ashes ’ to the extravagant world of the rich , the set emulated both poles of the social world at the time . Behind vintage-inspired microphones were four magnificent readers representing Nick as he narrates the plot , bringing the lyrical side of F Scott Fitzgerald ’ s narrative onto the stage . This was further enhanced by a live performance of ‘ The Love Nest ’, carefully chosen out of the music referred to in the book , sung by Klipspringer ( Charlotte Honer ).
Backed by the wonderful Year 11s , who were present at all six performances , this cast and team worked through countless obstacles with positivity and passion – and undoubtedly portrayed this in their performance .
