From the Spice Girls to sea shanties : an unforgettable staff concert
What a phenomenal evening . I can unequivocally say that I will always remember the staff concert as one of the highlights of my time at Sevenoaks .
Every four years the staff put on a fun , informal concert for everyone to enjoy , and for the students to see the staff in a different light . They have certainly achieved that aim ; I ’ m not sure I will ever see some of my teachers in the same light again ... especially Mr Oberti Oddi , or should I say Tina . Also , I was overwhelmed with the talent I saw some of the teachers display : Dr Cheung ’ s dance moves , Mr Beston ’ s sensational sax playing , and the amazing vocals brought by Miss Hill , Mr White , Mrs Hargreaves and Mrs Hamilton . Truly a night to remember !
It started with all the teachers on stage singing ‘ The Greatest Show ’, with Mr Drury taking the lead as PT Barnum , the crowd clapping and cheering along with them . Afterwards we met the presenters of the show : Mr de May in a tuxedo and Tina , a beautiful Argentine lady who looked suspiciously like my Spanish teacher ; a wonderful duo with comically opposing views on ‘ good ’ music .
Highlights included Miss Jay , Mrs Nicholson , Dr Cheung , Mr Oberti Oddi and Mr Bishop lip-syncing to ‘ Wannabe ’ by the Spice Girls . Seeing Mr Bishop in a lovely black dress certainly got the crowd up on their feet ; also , Dr Cheung ’ s dance moves were hypnotic ; there was so much cheering for her it was hard to hear the song . Another great moment was Mr Dyer ’ s remix of ‘ YMCA ’ to become ‘ the TOK song ’, with new actions for words – love = Mo Farah m , T = t with your arms and OK = thumbs up . Everyone
