CAREERS FORUM AND CAREERS FAIR

We were delighted to welcome back six Old Sennockians from the Class of 2014 for a Lower Sixth Careers Forum .

Saul Greenhalgh , Emma Hulston , Elsa Cameron , Lizzy Elton , Toby Hunt and Jennifer Hack are graduates in their twenties pursuing a range of careers . They spoke insightfully about their various routes to university and the workplace after studying the IB Diploma .
We enjoyed anecdotes from Saul , a sports sponsorship and marketing professional , about working for Manchester United and Formula 1 . He studied Sports Management with a placement year ( with Birmingham City FC ) at Loughborough University . Lizzy talked about her job in television as a freelance assistant producer , and the part her English Literature degree has played in her career . Emma , who read Geography at Nottingham , gave an inspiring overview of the role of a Sustainability Manager at Unilever .
Elsa , who studied Law and is now completing the ACA and CTA programmes , shared her insights into the life of a trainee chartered accountant at PWC . She described the tenacity required when continuing study alongside work . Toby presented a genial description of life in a London law firm . He read History at Exeter , then spent two years at law school , working part-time for an educational charity and as a ski instructor in Japan for a season .
Jennifer went from a Modern Languages degree at Cambridge to working as a headhunter for the financial services sector . She described her subsequent lightbulb moment during lockdown fuelling her desire to become a property investor and entrepreneur .
It was particularly gratifying to hear how formative and beneficial the experience of studying the IB Diploma was for them all , instilling a strong work ethic and breadth of knowledge that they draw upon in their working lives . The warmth the Old Sennockians have for their school was apparent and it is clear how important friendships forged at Sevenoaks are in later life .
We are very grateful to our panel for taking time out of their busy lives to inspire and reassure our students .
The annual Careers Fair returned to the Science and Technology Centre in April , providing an amazing opportunity for Year 11 , Lower and Upper Sixth students to learn more about professions that interest them . Eighty volunteers ( parents , Old Sennockians and friends of the school ) helped students with information and ideas for their future .
A great range of professions were represented including medicine , healthcare , veterinary medicine , finance , business , management , consultancy , the public sector , education , charities and NGOs , architecture , property , media , marketing , design , the arts , law , journalism , science , engineering and technology . Our thanks to everyone who offered their time and expertise to help our students .
