ICELAND
Waterfalls , volcanoes , glaciers and wide , wide , open spaces to inspire geographers of all ages
Few countries on earth have such a breathtaking array of natural beauty as Iceland ; it is unique . We were captivated by the sheer variety of landforms . You can look in one direction and see vast flatlands with volcanic ash beaches , only to turn your head to see staggering snow-capped volcanoes .
The Year 10 Geography trip provided an actionpacked six-day tour of the south of Iceland for 60 pupils and seven members of staff . The highlights included climbing a glacier , of which the scale is hard to comprehend , exploring under waterfalls with the water crashing down within touching distance , and bathing in natural hot springs , with water warmer than a hot tub . We also had an exhilarating drive across the foothills of the volcanoes , hoisted high in super jeeps .
