STEMAGINATION WEEK
With STEM subjects more important than ever before , STEMagination Week was ideally placed to inspire students by showcasing some of the incredible research and achievements of scientists worldwide , to allow them to carry out their own research and to make STEM enjoyable .
On Monday 1 March began a Science Week like no other . For the first time , students were online ; Teams calls replaced crowded theatres and webpages replaced student project exhibitions . The event took place after a year in which several fields of science had dominated the news and governed our lives . Many of us who had barely heard of epidemiology 12 months earlier were now closely following the fluctuations of the ‘ R ’ number and scrutinising charts and maps .
No topic was too arcane for the range of lectures and demonstrations given by our incredibly knowledgeable Science and Technology teachers , as well as several external speakers . The wide variety of talks , recorded for students in all time zones , gave an insight into the breadth of global scientific research : modelling Covid-19 , drug targeting and bioengineering were just a few .
