THE CATERING OPERATION
As Napoleon might have said , a school learns on its stomach , so students ( and teachers !) were grateful to the catering team for swiftly adapting to the pandemic restrictions . Students had to eat in year group bubbles , with the Dining Hall cleaned between sittings , so in came periods 4A and 4B , a shift system which staggered lunch across period 4 and lunchtime . Up went a giant marquee on Jockey ’ s Platch to serve as a second dining hall , and staff got used to eating packed lunches , boxed salads and hot takeaway meals , distributed on the Flat , in their classrooms and offices . Boarders ’ supper and breakfast were similarly staggered , while any student isolating had an individual meal delivered to their room . Rebecca Pogson and her team even managed to give 1100 + students a joyous Christmas lunch . Napoleon would have tipped his hat .
