MARY ELLEN MCEUEN 1945-2021
Mary Ellen always loved school , from her teenage years at Downe House , where she developed lifelong friendships , to her work as a governor at Solefield School , and then at Sevenoaks . As part of these governing bodies , she was open-hearted and interested in everyone ; she liked to give people the floor , to hear their opinions and to make them feel comfortable and valuable . She took a genuine interest in school life at Sevenoaks , devoting herself to the Bursary Fund set up in memory of her son , Ed , after his early death , and following the progress of the students whom the fund has supported over the years . Latterly , she would invariably be seen at Founder ’ s Day , or in the Pamoja Hall or Sackville Theatre , and more often than not on the edge of a freezing rugby pitch or rainy cricket ground , cheering on her three grandchildren . A true champion of the school , her elegance and kindness will be much missed .

JOY NOTTIDGE 1922-2020
Lockdown saw another link with the past slip away ; my mother , Joy Nottidge , widow of James ( JR ) Nottidge who taught Biology at Sevenoaks from 1962 to 1985 , died aged 97 at home in Stamford , Lincolnshire , after a brief illness . My brother Tim ( TWN ) and I were grateful that our families let us provide much of her care in those last weeks . That gave our first lockdown a happy , busy but reflective atmosphere . Kind-hearted and clear-minded to the end , Joy , who was born in Kent but grew up around the world , was happy to talk about childhood memories , hers and ours , the history of Sevenoaks , family , friends and the happy coincidence that brought her back to Stamford where we children were born and JRN started his teaching career . To any Sennockians who knew her , I ’ m sure she ’ d say she wishes you well .

COLIN FRANK BROWN 1929-2021
Sadly my father Colin Brown passed away peacefully on 17 August aged 92 . I was lucky enough to accompany him to several of his school reunions , the last one taking place at Johnsons House where he used to board . He enjoyed the day very much as it brought back many memories . Over a glass of claret , he would often regale us with stories of his school days which he clearly enjoyed . He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him .
