Another highlight of the season was the cross country training camp based in Houghton , on the South Downs : 22 students and three members of staff had a fantastic few days running , with three running sessions and two theory sessions on offer each day . Some runners managed to cover over 55km in the three days and we also managed to fit in a barbecue , pizza and film night , yoga and a pub meal . Even the weather cooperated and so we ran along the River Arun in the sun and saw a spectacular rainbow on the last day . It was excellent preparation for our runners for the fixtures later in the season and they all enjoyed it and improved their fitness .
Overall , it has been such a good season , watching all the runners put maximum effort into both training and racing , and reap the rewards of their dedication to the sport . Although not commonly thought of as a team sport , cross country allows students from across the school to come together to train and encourage one another throughout the season . We are so lucky to have Knole Park right on our doorstep , and dedicated teachers who give up their time to plan sessions , fixtures and trips and help out during Games time . With so many younger runners showing promise , it will be exciting to see their progress in the future !
